Pam Taylor and KK in Troy London

Dear Friends,

Here we are in the merry, scary month of October.    The trees are in high color as are our spirits as we approach the fall season with excitement and anticipation.    It took all of last month to get settled back into our fall routines and now we are ready and raring to get going.   Lunches and dinners with friends, new plays to see, openings of every kind to attend – it is a bit dizzying but great fun.  And we are here, 10 years later to answer the perennial question, “What should I wear!?”  Hilary and I are shopping our top department stores and boutiques to find the best of the new season.  I was recently introduced to Rosie Van Cutsem and her brand, Troy London. Luxury Clothing from City to Country.   The line has a fabulous feminine fit and simple yet stylish details, put this on your MUST-HAVE list for fall. Looking forward to weekends in the country, walking behind the hunt and taking part in all of the Harvest events of the season. Please don’t forget, if you shop through our site, we earn a commission, and donate a portion of it  to our Charity of the Month.   This month, we are celebrating Boy’s Club of New York, BCNY and its 143 years of empowering boys to be competent academically and emotionally, connected to their communities, rich in character, and confident in their futures.   Thank you for staying with us in our ten years since the creation of What2WearWhere.   We enjoy hearing from you.

Dear Friends,   I have been mostly down south this winter and thus the arrival of March, usually heralded with great fanfare as turning a corner into spring, has lost some of its seasonal significance. As fairly a newby into this snowbird status, I am still trying it on for size.   There is something wonderful about waking up to nature and palm trees each morning but admittedly missing Madison Avenue and the stressful strains of the city. This month we are celebrating our beloved St. Patrick’s Day and will be posting lots of tips and packing lists for Spring Break and Spring Travel.  Please let us know your destinations and we will be helpful with our stylish suggestions.   If you don’t have a copy of  Packing for Travel, from Jet Set to Trek Set the Definitive Globe Trotting Guide.” it is now available on Amazon Prime.     Screen Shot 2015-06-01 at 11.27.10 AM

Dear Friends,   I feel like I am cheating on my friends up north, as I have parked myself in Wellington with the dogs, missing much cold and nasties. I must say that I love the outdoor life that this climate affords. Meanwhile Hilary is covering New York Fashion Week slipping in slush, running to shows and dodging between flu germs, and we are looking forward to her reports and repartee.    We have some of the brightest events in February – J.  McLaughlin/Everglades Foundation in store shopping, the one and only, Westminster Dog Club, Valentine’s Day.  Hope you read our article on New York Social Diary.   Then President’s Weekend brings a possible four day get-away, or at least a respite from the work schedule. And we will be sending our handy Packing Lists and Travel Tips.   This month we are partnered with The Society Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.  Wishing you a month of heartfelt events with family and friends.   Screen Shot 2015-06-01 at 11.27.10 AM

Dear Friends,  I just returned from a heavenly holiday with close friends, bobbing in the sea aboard a sailing boat in the French West Indies.   John and I hadn’t experienced such a laid back sojourn in years. Nothing but the brilliant blue sky and seas, punctuated by cottony white clouds and billowing sails.  The luxury of time spent sailing, snorkeling, reading and lively conversations,  accompanied by the fresh, abundant bounty of the sea, garden and vineyard.  Heading into January refreshed and ready for the challenges to craft the upcoming year, rather than let it simply happen.  Not one for “resolutions”, I believe in “solutions” and setting goals. One of mine is ready more current publications as I tend to listen to my Audible books to the exclusion of other mediums.  Another is to find a class on a subject of interest. Do you know about CourseHorse? And of course, health and wellness continues to be high on the list of aims to achieve. Hilary and I are looking forward to new articles for New York Social Diary as well as keeping What2WearWhere up-to-date with the latest on fashion, travel and lifestyle.   All the best to you in the New Year and beyond.Screen Shot 2015-06-01 at 11.27.10 AM

Who doesn’t adore Thanksgiving when friends and family and food are the highest priority.  It is also time to reflect on the origins of the holiday of different cultures coming together for peace and friendship. November’s landscape is most appealing as the fall finest foliage abandons the trees and we are left with a soulful, muted vista that lasts until the first snowfall arrives.  Enjoy this month to catch up on the things that take concentration to complete. Be good to yourself as we prepare for December’s onslaught of frenzied activities. Exercise, hydrate, exfoliate and moisturize your way to feeling pampered. And don’t forget to do something to help others – you always get more that you give.   The new look of the site, continues to create a few glitches which we are working on so please let us know if you hit a snag. When you click through our site to shop, a percentage of our commission will be donated to our Charity of the Month. This month our partner is Movember, tackling the tough issue of Prostate Cancer.  Remind your loved ones to get checked on a regular basis.

After shoulder surgery in June, I am thrilled to throw myself back into working out and feeling well. I discovered an app called TroupeFit which provides experienced trainers on-demand for $49.95.  I highly recommend it if you are looking for a new routine. There is an exhilaration surrounding the upcoming season of openings, art shows, reconnecting with friend and beginning new projects.   There is a sense of “getting back to it” even if you haven’t been anywhere. And between New York Fashion Week and the US Open Tennis Championships, the town is alive with buzz and excitement.  During the month of August, we suspended our newsletter as we were working to revamp What2WearWhere and make it a little more user friendly.   We can”t wait to show it to you but as the renovation is running a little behind so it will be about a week until we unveil the new look.   As we have been writing posts for ten years, we are careful not to lose our archives which are a rich resource for what to wear for all of life’s events and  how to pack for travel. We are here to answer all of your specific destination questions. Our mission now is the same as the day we began, “Let us take the guesswork out of dressing, the legwork out of shopping and the panic out of  packing.”     With best regards for a wonderful and meaningful new season.

It feels so fresh, even if you are not near a beach.  And of course, it makes packing for travel a breeze!  We hope you can kick back, enjoy time with family and friends – before you know it, Labor Day is here and back to the frenzied pace that accompanies the new and fresh season.   But enough future thinking, since June when rushing to a meeting, not looking where I was going, and experienced an intimate encounter with a pothole, I vowed to slow down and be in the moment. How is it working? Well since having surgery, I was forced to do less.  This is not an easy assignment for one who “relaxes” by getting things done. But I am more mindful of my surroundings, especially underfoot. Wishing you find your own R&R in the coming weeks.   Be safe, be well, be happy. Screen Shot 2015-06-01 at 11.27.10 AM

This summer we are taking a break from our bi-monthly newsletter to spiff the look and direction of the site. We will post intermittently when we receive a request.  And just when you think you can’t take it any more, along come Valentine’s Day to sweetly lift your spirits with warm wishes from family and friends.  From there it is just a short hop to President’s Weekend and a possible four day get-away, or at least a respite from the work schedule.   Many fly go south to escape and that is exactly where I find myself this month, spending time in Florida, working and tending to some family affairs.  Hilary and I are very excited to launch our monthly articles on New York Social Diary, with a post about The Museum of the City of New York Winter Ball.  Please take the time to read it and tell us what you think.  As we have done since our sight was founded (I think it was 2009, but may have been earlier) 10% of our commission from retail sales and $1 for every new reader on our list will be donated to our Charity of the Month.   Wishing you a month of generous and heartfelt events.  Screen Shot 2015-06-01 at 11.27.10 AM[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”66509″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]Dear Friends, New Year, new opportunities, new goals!  Too much going on.  It feels good to be in the festive holiday month with its swirl of activities, the chill in the air and carols drifting through short days and long nights.   This month, it is important to keep ourselves healthy, exercising, drinking plenty of water and getting enough rest to ward off colds and flu.   Don’t forget to get your flu shot if you haven’t already – I hear this year’s strain is a doozy.   December can also be emotionally challenging, remembering year’s past and those who have gone.  Having lost our beloved Papa in January, the last of our parents, we are experiencing the bittersweetness of the season, more acutely this year.   Helping others is one of the best ways to embrace the spirit of the holidays.  I have just discovered Hope for New York, an organization that pairs volunteers with opportunities.   With the New Year just around the corner, we will continue to enjoy “the best of 2016” articles, including our own and look forward with hope to 2017.   Hilary suggested Red Sneakers for Oakley as our Charity of the Month, inspired by the life of Oakley Debbs.  Please be generous with your donations to this and other important donation in your end of year gift giving.   With the very best wishes you and your families.   Screen Shot 2015-06-01 at 11.27.10 AM[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”66511″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]Dear Friends,   It is November, one of the most productive months of the year.  The drop in temperature gives us a cool boost of energy.    All about town, the social scene is in full swing with so many opportunities for dressing up and down.   This month we are getting ready for the holiday season by getting in shape.  Lots of working out and 3 Day Cleansing with Isabel’s Kitchen, organically source ingredients from Upstate New York and delivery into the city.   The landscape upstate is glorious at this time of year.  Fallen leaves have left the lvistas exquisitely detailed but hardly bare as the subtle muted shades reveal their particular natural beauty.  Thanksgiving is simply the best holiday of the year when family and friends gather together to relax without the stress and strain of next month’s festivities.  This is the time for planning your get-aways, so please pick up a copy of Packing for Travel, to help you along the way.  And don’t forget to write in for tips on packing for your specific destinations.  This month we are honored to partner with Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation for Cancer Research as our Charity of the Month. Screen Shot 2015-06-01 at 11.27.10 AM[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_single_image image=”66512″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]Dear Friends,    Orange you so happy it’s October! My hat is off to the Central Park Conservancy for the gift that gives to the city every day, attracting over 42 million visitors each year. January is the best time to lay back, get cozy in your “Comfy Clothes”, enjoy slow foods like soups and stews and catch up on the new season of Downton Abbey. It has been 5 years since we launched What2WearWhere.com. Thank you for staying with us through our many transitions. We have kept true to our mission of “practical fashion.” We are dedicated to saving today’s busy women time, by creating a carefully curated collection for life’s events, workplace, sports and travel. We enthusiastically respond to specific destination questions from our friends so please keep writing. We look forward to some new directions for all of us in 2015.   With love and best wishes for the New Year and beyond.

Dear Friends,  Wow, December just blew in short on the heels of Thanksgiving and catching us slightly off guard!   We will be shopping online for great gifts ideas, the best of holiday sales, lots of festive fashion, plu great destinations for winter travel. The month can be bittersweet, remembering friends and family who have left us.  While unpacking the well-worn boxes of decorations, the spirits of Christmas past seem to come alive through each memento, bell, and ball.   To lift our spirits, we try to help others.  Our Charity of the Month of December is HELP USA. Maria Cuomo Cole, one of our modern day role models, has led this organization to meet the evolving challenges facing homeless populations by providing support and job training.  Please be generous this Holiday Season.

With best wishes and thoughts to your and your families.
