While he achieved remarkable success in business and publishing, those who knew him best will remember him most for his irreverant humor and keen intelligence. Friends said, “Fred knows everything!” – and he did.

Fred played a pivotal role in shaping modern media. In 1985, he acquired U.S. News & World Report, serving as CEO and co-chairman for nearly two decades. In 1993, he became co-owner, Chief Executive Officer, and co-publisher of the New York Daily News, helping guide one of New York City’s most iconic newspapers through a critical period and ensuring its survival and continued influence.

Fred’s wife Lora Drasner matched his wit and whimsey in all things. As she chaired the Ballet Palm Beach Gala this season she noted, “Best gala of the season and the only time my husband will put on a tie! He threw them all away when we left NYC!”

After their move from Miami, the Drasners involved themselves in numberous charitable causes in both Wellington and Palm Beach.
