Last week we had the best time attending the launch of The Museum at FIT’s new exhibition, Vivienne Westwood, 1980-89. FIT Director and Chief Curator, Valerie Steele, and the graduate students in the Fashion Institute of Technology’s MA program gave us a sneak peak to this fabulously well edited and curated exhibit. We put together our own highlight video of the exhibition featuring the song, “I Want Candy”, from Vivienne Westwood’s partner Malcolm McLaren’s music group Bow Wow Wow. The exhibit is on view at Gallery FIT from March 8-April 2, 2011 and is not to be missed! For further information please go to The Museum at FIT’s website.
The show is organized into three sections: In the Press looks at the fashion and lifestyle media coverage of Westwood’s career, marking her global recognition as a fashion designer. In the Streets and On TV reflects her influence and designs within the street style and music scenes. Lastly, the exhibition features On the Runway exhibiting pieces from Westwood’s work from The Museums at FIT’s collection along with actual catwalk footage showing the unique and revolutionary style that is ultimately Vivienne Westwood.
