On June 18th, The Horticultural Society of New York (The Hort) will host its “Block Party 2012,” a silent art auction and meet-and-greet the artists event, featuring new and original street artwork by prominent and up-and-coming international urban artists. Located in the beautiful Rooftop Garden at the Arsenal in Central Park, the “Block Party” will transform the Arsenal into a gallery lounge and vibrant rooftop soirée.  Block Party 2012 has been expertly curated by Dana Albarella James, will be hosted by Minya Oh, Miss Info of Hot 97, and music will be provided by DJ Dub-L.

We love the upbeat and hip tone of this event, and we went shopping at Bergdorf’s to find a worthy look.   Loving this perfect Ikat gown by Milly in understated but gorgeous colors.  We took care to pick a shoe that was fun and said evening without being stuffy or too formal, and these Gucci sandals are just the ticket. We kept the lines of the accessories free and flowing, just like the dress, with these Sachin Babi Rorchach fringe earrings and Tory Burch Serpent stacking bangles. To top it all off, we chose this beautiful fringed foulard shawl by Loro Piana to keep you warm as the nighttime temperatures dip on the Rooftop Garden.

Up on the Roof!

Read on for a sneak peek of just of few contributing artists’ works, as well as a full list of contributing artists below.  KAWS, world renowned graffiti artist turned gallery maven and 2013 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Balloon designer, has created an original work specially for this year’s “Block Party.”  The triumvirate of artists who produced the central installation in last year’s LA MOCA sold-out “Art in the Streets” show—Barry McGee, Todd James, and Steve Powers—have each donated an original painting to the Block Party auction, with James creating one of his iconic Somali Pirate paintings especially for the event.  Famous photographer Lawrence Schiller is donating a print of a just-published photograph from his Marilyn Monroe collection, which was featured in Vanity Fair this month and which comes from an edition of just 35.  The event will also feature a work from beloved urban chronicler Sue Kwon, author of Street Level and hailed everywhere for her charismatic black and white photographs of all five New York boroughs.  Like we said, this is a silent auction you do not want to miss!
