The Art Show — established in 1989 to benefit Henry Street Settlement — is celebrating 25 years. On Tuesday, March 5, the 2013 Art Show Gala Preview will enliven the Park Avenue Armory for a “don’t miss” evening on New York’s social and cultural calendars and the start of one of the city’s most stimulating and enjoyable arts events, New York City ArtsWeek. With Honorary Chairs Agnes Gund, Ronald & Jo Carole Lauder, and Lisa & David T. Schiff, Co-Chairs Beth O. Canavan, Aby Rosen & Samantha Boardman, and Byron & Anita Volz Wien, and the very best dealers and collectors in attendance, this lively and elegant cocktail party promises to be a dazzling evening of fine art and enthralling company. The Art Show, which is organized annually by the Art Dealers Association of America to benefit Henry Street Settlement, will be open to the public from March 6 to 10, from noon to 8pm Wednesday through Saturday, and from noon to 6pm Sunday. Go to HenryStreet.org to purchase tickets to the Art Show Gala Preview or to make a donation, and for more information, contact Stephanie Gordon at 212.766.9200 x247 or [email protected].
In the art world, black is the new black. But we went to NET-A-PORTER — always our first stop when searching for what to wear to an arty party — and picked a few styles that add a little creativity to the mix. First, the geometric jacquard of Zero+MariaCornejo’s ‘Biri’ Dress is appropriately inspired by a field of crop circles the designer photographed from an airplane window, and the black bodice is cut from crisp stretch-twill that forms to the body for a flattering shape. With our love of leather, we couldn’t resist the sleek and chic urban appeal of DKNY’s black leather and canvas dress, and timeless yet trend-tapping, Victoria, Victoria Beckham’s covetable collection of dresses has taken the fashion world by storm. Shaded in black, gray-blue and olive stripes, this satin-twill style is our latest favorite. Finally, we went back to black in the sleekly stunning shoes by McQ Alexander McQueen and Brian Atwood and beautiful bags by NewbarK and Anya Hindmarch.
