“I will be in San Francisco, CA for five days in mid August to attend a Bat Mitzvah weekend celebration. Please suggest casual, luncheon, dinner and party outfits. Also, I am not sure of the weather in August. Have been to SF many times, but at different times of the year and experienced damp and cool to cold weather! Help, please.” When we received this request from a friend, we immediately went to weather.com and confirmed the variable temperatures in San Francisco in August which can be as high as 80 or as low as the 40’s. Then we consulted our West Coast Guru Jeannie Lawrence, the author of San Francisco Social Diary, for her opinion on the proper style. “During day in San Franciso, it is more casual than New York, but for festive events like a Bar Mitzvah, the style is like New York, although with more color and less black.” So off we went to find the perfect selection for day, luncheon, cocktails and party. Putting together an ensemble that would travel well and would be fitting for each of the events of the weekend. It would be a very similar collection for a wedding, anniversary party and other celebratory affairs.
For morning strolls along the Embarcadero, or Fisherman’s Wharf we like city jeans with some stretch, a crisp white shirt, and a go-everywhere Burberry Quilted Jacket. Top it off with a Michael Kors Studded Crossbody Bag, a cosy & chic Pucci Wrap to layer as needed and some comfy Cole Haan Ballet Flats for maneuvering the hills of the City by the Bay. Want to change the look? Switch in the Theyskens’ Peplum Top, the Chloe Wedges and jewelry from the Luncheon to Party ensemble for a more dressed up day version.
And one of our most useful travel essential is a knit dress, like the iconic DVF Designs and we love this new ruched number. It can go from a morning of site-seeing, to lunch with friends, and straight on through to cocktails with the change of shoes and purse. To deal with the possible temperature and moisture fluctuations, we love this stylish packable trench. Splurge a little on this as it a classic investment piece that will bring you years of use.
Luncheon to Cocktails
Evenings are for cocktails parties, dinners and the main event, which calls for a special dress. We like a little bling for our Bat Mitzvah so we chose a Liquid Silk St. John’s Sheath, paired with strappy sandals, a small but smashing Jimmy Choo Clutch, same fabulous Alexis Bittar Jewelry and for chilly evenings, the sumptuous Pucci Wrap. For a different cocktail look, pair with the chic black accessories from the Luncheon to Cocktails ensemble.
