We had a wonderful fashion question from one of our readers that we want to share. Help! My husband and I are going to Ascot this June. It’s easy for him to follow the rules in the Royal Enclosure but I need help. I need a chic appropriately formal day dress and hat, no fascinators allowed! I need a hat with at least a 4″ brim, shoes I can stand in all day and a bag that works with it all. We are going to Paris for a week afterward so hopefully I can have the dress and shoes do double duty this trip.
Thanks for your help!
We were inspired by the scene at Ascot from My Fair Lady and the chicly black and white scheme – of course women don’t dress up quite that much anymore. The fact that you are going to Paris afterward was also a factor in choosing classic & stylish pieces that would stand up well to travel. The Armani Sheath is the epitome of understated style. It is an investment that will give you fashion returns year after year. It can be paired in so many ways, dressed up or down. Here we have paired it with a great cut jacket. The black and white of the hats really tie the whole look together. The Manolo Blahnik Slings are low heedled enough to be comfortable for all day action, and Jimmy Choo Shoes, although designed for style, the cut outs actually keep your feet cool. For the purse, we wanted something with a shoulder strap, small enough to be lady-like and large enough to carry some essentials for day-long spectating, like small opera glasses, the program, etc. For jewelry, we would suggest a great pair of gold and pearl clips that will complement the hat, without overwhelming it and it might be fun to put together long strands of gold chains and pearls. We hope this helped. Look forward to your feedback. kk
