‘Tis the season of holiday parties! So many of our W2WW young friends have been asking about office party etiquette that we decided to publish our own guidelines. What to Wear to an Office Party

DO: Dress modestly. Nothing too low-cut, too short or too tight – no matter what others are wearing. Save your sexy dress for a night out with friends.

DON’T: Show décolleté. It is distracting and sends the wrong kind of message.

SHOP NOW: Milly Stella Lace Dress ($435), Tory Burch Silk Daphne Dress ($525), Diane von Furstenberg Delian Pebble Lace Peplum Dress ($267) ON SALE

DO: Dress festively.   Pick a LDB with a touch of bling.  Fun sparkling earrings, a clutch with a pop of color, and embellished high heels – black patterned stockings are also a fun way to make an outfit special.

DON’T: Overdo it. This is not the occasion to wear anything too “out there” or try to steal the show with what you’re wearing.

SHOP NOW: Vera Wang Lavender Label Selima Glitter Platform Pumps ($192) ON SALE, Alice + Olivia Helena Floral Velvet Brocade Pumps ($345), Kate Spade New York Lenora Glitter Rhinestone-Detail Slingback Pumps ($365)

DO: Set up a strategy in advance.  Is there someone in the company that could help advance your career?  Remember this is an opportunity to socialize with some higher-ups.

DON’T: Be obviously sucking up to the bosses.

SHOP NOW: Kate Spade New York Adair Clutch ($194.50) ON SALE, Diane von Furstenberg Tonda Haircalf Clutch ($276.50) ON SALE, Jimmy Choo Coarse Glitter Shoulder Bag ($304.50) ON SALE

DO: Be social. Go out of your way to mingle with some new co-workers and try to speak to everyone.

DON’T: Flirt – everyone is watching.  If you are interested in a co-worker, make other opportunities outside of work to get to know each other – no making out in the corner!

SHOP NOW: Bobbi Brown Nail Polish/Twilight Shimmer ($18), Dolce & Gabbana Animalier Bronzer ($57), Tom Ford Beauty Ultra Shine Lip Gloss ($45)

DO: Drink in moderation. Begin with water and alternate every other drink.

DON’T: Pre-drink – wait until you get to the party to start to party.  And going out to bars “with the guys” afterwards is also not a great idea.

DO: Eat something. A trip to the hors d’oeuvres table is a great way to switch conversation groups.

DON’T: Eat seafood hors d’oeuvres. Nothing is worse than fishy breath.

SHOP NOW: Adriana Orsini Pavé Linear Framed Drop Earrings ($80), Kenneth Jay Lane Swarovski Crystal Clip-On Drop Earrings ($90), Kate Spade New York Faceted Chandelier Earrings ($98)

DO: Make it a point to thank the people who have put the party on, whether it is the head of the company, the head of your department or your co-worker who helped with the organization.

DON’T: Forget to send a hand-written note. It is always appreciated.

And last but not least. . .

DO:  Have a wonderful time, and send us your own DOs and DON’Ts!
