The Central Park Conservancy is pulling out all the stops (and the weeds) and planting seeds of excitement for tomorrow’s (Wednesday, November 16th) Central Park MOD at Rumsey Playfield. Stylish Co-Chairs Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, Amanda and Glenn Fuhrman, Jill and Barry Lafer and Gillian and Sylvester Miniter have created a totally righteous theme. Are you feeling groovy, yet?

This is a unique happening when ardent supporters trek into the park after dark, for an evening of revelry and philanthropy. The feeling is outta sight as 7 p.m. drinks lead to a seated dinner at 8 p.m., before the park rocks out and rocks on with a fab band and dancing. At 9 p.m. the Young Associates blow in and swarm the floor — hot, hot, hot!

Last year’s 40th Anniversary celebration was Black Tie. It should be great fun to see our philanthropic fashionistas’ iconic interpretations on the MOD theme. Co-chair Gillian Miniter described the buzz, “We are all excited for our Central Park Mod event next week. The response has been incredible: New Yorkers realize more than ever how important Central Park is for everyone and this event is a great way to support the Conservancy. We came up with the Mod theme because it is fun in terms of decor, food and music and coincidentally Mod is having a moment in fashion.”

We are loving the throwback vibe and for our What to Wear, we shopped at Sak.com to find a swinging set of ensembles, so playfully MOD.

Long or short? You decide as long as it is meant for dancing as the crowd will “Shake It Up Baby” all night long. The Milly frock is all a flutter while La Double J swirling maxi makes a bold statement. The playful earrings keep the swing going and the purses are retro statements in themselves, especially the Paco Rabbane 1969 Pochette! And on your toes — the shoe of the moment happens to be a blast from the past — clunky, platform sandals that support your style.

Groovy Baby!

Well, I admit I got a wee-bit carried away with my love of feathers! From the small to the tall, I couldn’t resist. Is that even a dress?

Fashion Note: I find Saks very helpful when it comes to deciding on the best length. First measure yourself from the top of your shoulder to the length that you prefer. Click Product Details and it will note the length of the dress and then you will know if it is too short or too long — hemming solves the latter but the former is a little trickier.

Feathery Flock

Hilary, who enjoys the park almost every day, has her sights set on these fun fashionable frocks. “I love Central Park! It is an amazing enclave in the midst that offers so many beautiful spots to escape the cement city we live in. And with the meticulous care of the Central Park Conservancy it gets better and better. The Mod theme this year fits perfectly with the latest trends. And who embodies that look more than Halston? I found these timeless pieces by the brand that are perfect for the evening. Bring on the sequins, the feathers and of course the sky high platforms …”

There is no end to the ways that New Yorkers and others are enriched by Central Park. It welcomes 42 million visitors a year who come to run, bike, play, stroll or sit quietly and enjoy nature in our city’s backyard. To put that in perspective, it is the number one visited park in the nation! Second place is Golden Gate Park with 24 million visitors.

The Women’s Committee was created in 1983 for the protection and enhancement of the park. With over 1,000 members strong it has raised over $200 million for general operation and special projects. The Park is the jewel in the crown of New York City, thanks to donors and the army of dedicated employees and volunteers who nimbly toil on our behalf. So, when you see them say: “Thank you!”
