The Mad Hatters will be fully engaged at the inaugural Spoons Across America Winter Hat Luncheon. Katherine Gage Boulud, a passionate advocate for childhood nutrition and education, has created a wonderland of festivity and flowers in the garden of the elegant Cafe Boulud Palm Beach. Many friends will be flocking to the luncheon tomorrow, February 21, 2025 to support the organization that feeds and educates the nation’s children.
Katherine describes her long involvement: “My journey with Spoons Across America began in 2015 through my aunt, Kathy Springhorn, who is close friends with Mitzi Perdue, was honored by the organization that year. Originally a chef, I transitioned into nutrition after getting married, returning to school to study Nutrition Education. I wanted to combine my love for healthy food with improving family’s health and Spoons Across America was an amazing fit. The organization’s mission to help children become healthy ‘Food Explorers’ and encouraging family meals together immediately resonated with me. Their curriculum, which spans from kindergarten to sixth grade, perfectly aligns with my own personal mission and together we are making amazing strides to ensure Spoons programming is available to every child Across America!”
In 2015, legendary chef Jacques Pepin was the first recipient of Spoons Across America Award for Excellence. As Jacques explained, “The greatest thing you can do for your children is to cook and share food with them. The precious moments you spend together around the family table go way beyond the food itself; they lead to an understanding of the benefits of healthy eating and are the basis for good family relationships.”
Studies show that the interactions that family meals foster benefit children developmentally and psychologically and increase learning readiness. According to a 2000 White House Council of Economic Advisors’ report, teenagers who had dinner with their parents five nights a week are far more likely to avoid smoking, drinking, violence, suicide, and drugs.
Caroline Herrera, the generous sponsor of the event, welcomed the event guests into their Worth Avenue boutique for an evening of fashion and festivities. In 2018, the designer who dressed more residents of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue than anyone, turned the title of creative design director to Wes Gordon, a fashion wunderkind who has brought new blood to the luxury brand while retaining its commitment to classical beauty and proportion.
Designer Lela Sadoughi arrived with a bounty of bonnets to mix and match with the chicest of fashion choices.
Hilary and I are looking forward to attending with our chapeaus in place. Following the floral theme on the invitation, we came up with this bouquet of blooming frocks befitting the en plein air occasion. This collection will suit the sunny climes of the sunshine state while our friends up north are reminded of the springtime styles just ahead.
Hilary choices for the luncheon are botanically chic. “I am a big advocate of healthy eating, but I have to admit I am guilty of feeding my girls chicken nuggets and mac and cheese when they were little. Well balanced meals and healthy menus are now first and foremost in my mind and I am so impressed with the work of Spoons Across America. As a girl who had most dinners at home with my parents growing up, I appreciate the value of that family time around the table. Floral is the theme for this week’s lunch and I found these pieces that fit the bill. As always add a pretty accessory and high heels and you are ready.”
