On Friday, October 4, 2013, hundreds of sailors and supporters from New York’s media, finance, education, food and wine, maritime, and business communities will set sail for the third annual New York Harbor Regatta. America’s Cup 12 Meters and Manhattan Sailing Club J/24s are among the classes represented. Those who would rather watch than compete can enjoy a delightful afternoon of cocktails, light bites and commentary by sailing experts and media luminaries including NBC’s Willie Geist aboard luxury spectator yachts cruising New York Harbor. Directly following the racing, sailors, spectators and supporters will head to Governors Beach Club for the Regatta Bash! Complete with live reggae music, Dark ‘n’ Stormies, Fishers Island Oysters and specialties from New York’s top eateries, this party on the beach is not to be missed! Regatta proceeds will benefit New York Harbor Foundation’s programs for the students of Harbor School, New York City’s only public maritime high school.
Our friend and hero, Murray Fisher founded the New York Harbor School to provide education built upon New York City’s maritime experience that instills in students the ethics of environmental stewardship and the skills associated with careers on the water. He asked us to help with the oft’ asked, “What do I wear?” For this incredible nautical experience that goes from afternoon, on-board spectating to a hell of a celebration after-party the Regatta Bash, we went to the great American brand, J CREW for seaworthy style that landlubbers can appreciate as well.
