August is the height of the summer season getaways to Martha’s Vineyard. This week is one of the best on the Island with the excitement of two time-honored traditions. The 151st Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society Fair begins on Thurday and runs for 4 days with rides, games, shucking and fiddle contests, skillet toss, horse pull, woodsmen competitions, and dog & livestock shows. Wednesday, August 15, is Grand Illumination at the Campgrounds in Oak Bluffs. For over a century, cottages have been adorned with colorful Chinese and Japanese lanterns for Grand Illumination.
