We had a wonderful question from a friend in Chicago, “Can short dresses be worn to black tie event? What about hosiery? Chicago cold winter evenings . . . .”
This is oft asked query – Long or Short? Generally speaking, a short dress is appropriate for Black Tie. If the fête is a Gala or a Ball, or attended by Royalty or Heads of State, a long dress is generally worn. On a week night, with an early start time, and women coming directly from work, short dresses may be preferred, but check with us to do the research for you. We would rather be in the minority wearing short. For going short, pick a dress that has something special to say – bit of bling, lace or brocade, satins are all very glam. To answer the second part of the question regarding shoes and stockings – yes, freezing cold evening call for a little leg covering. If you are wearing stockings, you should wear closed toe shoes.
