What to wear the end of August? I valiantly hold on to the end of summer, by dressing in all white. It feels so light and bright and just the feeling to hold on to before heading back to the hectically scheduled fall. This year Labor Day is so early – “we was robbed” by a whole week! I have several white dresses and tops in the closet, but this is a really good time to add to your wardrobe. The cottons, linens and eylets tend to get a little tired by this time and I am looking for pieces that I can add to my collection for the winter season in hotter climes. This collection has a little of everything from crisp shirtdress to sultry knit midi, pick a few before they disappear.

Only a few left in the smashing style:
I also subscribe to the No Whites After Labor Day fashion rule, except for white jeans which are ubiquitous. The rule is a throwback to the Gilded Age when the wealthy would leave the cities for more favorable climates. White clothing, especially linen and cotton, was a practical choice for staying cool in the heat, but also served as a way to signal that one did not need to work or engage in manual labor, as white clothes were more susceptible to dirt. I just love how it looks and feels. I recently had the pleasure to attend a White Party, my favorite theme in summer. Enjoy the last weeks of it!
