Saturday, May 2nd, will mark the 141th Kentucky Derby. Alternatively referred to as “The Run for the Roses” or “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports,” the Kentucky Derby is so much more than a 1.25 mile race for three-year-old thoroughbred horses – it is one of the great American institutions run under the iconic twin spires of Churchill Downs. From the parade of horse and rider to singing of My Old Kentucky Home, the imbibing of Mint Juleps, to the Garland of Roses, each tradition adds to the rich history. In 2009, Churchill Downs partnered with Susan G. Komen for the Cure for the Derby’s little sister, Kentucky Oaks with runs on April 30. The Oaks has made PINK their signature color and so have we in presenting our rosy selection of what to wear to the Kentucky Derby. To find out more about Derby history, the best reciped for Mint Julep, music and lyrics to “My Old Kentucky Home,” or even the opportunity to wager on the derby, please visit the website of Kentucky Derby.
My fab and fun friend, Peggy Bitler recently took me to a trunk show of Christine A. Moore hats and fascinators. There was a great variety of women of all ages, shapes and sizes, and each seemed to find THE perfect and essential piece of finery for the upcoming Hat Luncheons, Derby Parties, Garden Parties, and Polo Matches. The hats are an investment in flattering fit and style. We had galloping good time pairing Christine A. Moore fabulous hats, available on Hats in the Belfry, with in-the-pink frock from Bergdorfs, whether you are a “Hot Pink”, “Simmering Pink”, or a “Sultry Pink” kind of gal, these are combinations to put you in the Winner’s Circle.
